Markus & The OUTSKRT (formerly known as Childish Major) returns with his first release under the new moniker, “We’re Losing Recipes,” available now.
A Grammy Award–winning producer, Grammy-nominated artist, and multi-platinum songwriter, Markus has built a career defined by range, intention, and cultural impact. Known for his ability to move seamlessly between engineering, songwriting, producing, performing, and instrumentation, he has long stood at the intersection of technical mastery and emotional depth.
Most recently, Markus earned a Grammy Award for his work on Doechii’s album, producing the standout record “NISSAN ALTIMA.” His production credits span a generational roster including Future, SZA, J. Cole, Rick Ross, Pusha T, 6LACK, and Ari Lennox, among many others.
Now, under the moniker Markus & The OUTSKRT, he steps into a new era rooted in soul, community, and cultural preservation. Inspired by the band-led eras of the 1960s and the legacy of Motown’s Hitsville, U.S.A., Markus founded OUTSKRT, U.S.A., a creative collective centered around community, ownership, and honest storytelling.
The debut release, “We’re Losing Recipes,” marks a return to the heart. Soulful, reflective, and deeply personal, the song uses food as a metaphor to explore culture, wisdom, and traditions passed down through everyday people — the aunties, uncles, grandparents, and neighbors who preserved stories, lessons, and love without recognition. It’s not simply a record about nostalgia; it’s about preservation.
As Markus shares:“We’re Losing Recipes” marks a new chapter for me, rooted in my love for R&B and Soul, Black American music that shaped culture from Motown to the Philly Sound to D’Angelo. Inspired by Motown as a cultural movement, I created OUTSKRT, U.S.A. and the moniker Markus & The OUTSKRT as an homage to a time when music felt communal and intentional. The song isn’t just about food, it’s about culture, wisdom, and the traditions passed down by everyday people.”
This new era isn’t driven by trends, it’s driven by intention. Through Markus & The OUTSKRT, Markus continues expanding his creative universe, honoring the spirit of R&B and Soul while building something meant to last.
